What’s so great about a dugout and one hitter?
Great question. The dugout pipe/one hitter is undeniably a timeless tool for any toker – but why?
This is a very important question to answer when it comes to figuring out the best dugout pipe, and best one hitter. You have to know what makes these tools great to determine the greatest after all.
The concept seems so simple. A little wooden box. One compartment to store the pipe, one compartment to store the goods. So what makes a device so simple, so special?
Its simplicity is what makes it so special.
- No battery to keep charged
- No glass to buy cleaner for
- No disconnecting pieces to lose
It’s just a box. A box that holds what it needs to hold, and a box that will last you for years and years to come.
With that being said, our criteria for determining the best dugout pipe (dugout pipe, dugout, dugout and one hitter, dugout for weed, one hitter for weed, etc all mean the same thing, we’ll be using these terms interchangeably) is pretty straight-forward.
What makes dugout pipes great in the first place is their simplicity and efficiency. We aren’t looking for a luxurious 24k gold dugout, or a next-generation smart dugout – we’re just looking for the all-around best dugout pipe.
Although, if you do happen to know where one could get a pure gold dugout pipe, you should definitely let us know – it wouldn’t earn the title of the best dugout pipe but it’d certainly get an honorable mention.
Why both best one hitter and best dugout pipe?
Why include best one hitter in with the best dugout pipe?
Because dugouts and one hitters go together like peanut butter and jelly.
Many people are on the hunt for the best one hitter, but the truth is to get the total package and convenience a one hitter offers, the best one hitter has to be packaged with a dugout.
What does dugout pipe, dugout, one hitter, and bat mean?
First off, let’s clear up the odd choice of words here.
You may have noticed that the terms dugout pipe, one hitter, dugout, bat, and more are all being thrown around. They’re all essentially the same thing.
A dugout is the little wooden box that holds everything, and the one hitter is the dugout pipe inside the box. You can also call a one hitter a bat when it’s in a dugout.
So don’t let these different terms confuse you. We’re just talking about a box (the dugout). This box holds a pipe (the dugout pipe or one hitter or bat).
Is this the best dugout pipe and best one hitter for weed?
Is this list just for the best dugout pipe, or the best dugout pipe for weed?
For the best one hitter, or the best one hitter for weed?
We would answer those questions with a question of our own: what’s the difference?
Many of our readers write to us asking specifically for the best one hitters, dugout pipes, and more for weed – but the fact is, if it’s the best dugout pipe or best one hitter for tobacco, it’s probably the best for weed as well.
So have no fear, whether you’re a fan of wacky tobacci or just plain old tobacco, all the products on this list will work just fine for you.
The Best Dugout Pipes
This dugout set has a truly unique approach to dugouts, and an even more unique name to match.
We haven’t been able to test this survival kit in a true zombie apocalypse, so we can’t refute their claim of its effectiveness as a Zombie Survival Kit for stoners. We do question the necessity of a dugout pipe in the event of a zombie apocalypse – but hey, everyone has their own priorities.
This set includes 2 pipe cleaners, 2 dugout pipes (one hitters), and a bonus tube to carry a j or some extra bud. The container features a swivel top and an extra durable design to ensure survival. Even in the event of a zombie apocalypse.
This is truly a complete kit – and a bit extra.
There are a few reasons the Zombie Survival Kit dugout pipe comes in at the five spot instead of higher on the list.
- Some reviews point out that the kit is less durable than advertised
- The bowl in the one hitter are fairly shallow, making it difficult to get a full hit. Since it’s a one hitter for weed, this could be a problem
- There’s a lot included in this kit, going against the motto of simplicity in dugouts
Overall, this is a solid kit, but in our opinion, it’s not the best dugout pipe out there due to the reasons above.
Tonalli’s Composite Case and Box has a simple, plain name to match its simple, plain approach to dugout pipes.
As as a result of this simple approach, all we can say about this dugout pipe you can gather from the image and title, for the most part.
It’s made from a composite material, as opposed to the typical wood or aluminum design. It features a swivel top. Open this top to reveal the two compartments every real dugout has – the storage compartment and the one hitter compartment.
So if this dugout follows the simplistic approach to dugouts, why did it get the number four spot instead of number one? Well, there are a few complaints to be made about this dugout.
- The lid is not sealed, so any potent materials stored inside this dugout will stink up your surroundings
- Any sticky goods stored in this dugout have a chance of building up and clogging the plastic compartment, so maybe not best dugout for weed
- The one hitter (or bat) is difficult to clean
Aside from the points made above, this is an affordable and reliable dugout pipe.
Don’t let the slyly named “Handmade All Art Craft Box” fool you. It’s a dugout. It’s got a one hitter inside too. Not the best one hitter, but a one hitter none the less. The point is, this is no craft box, it’s a dugout pipe.
But is it the best dugout pipe?
Well, no. It’s the third best dugout pipe though, which is pretty solid!
This dugout is fairly priced and is made of a durable wood – a step closer to that classic dugout pipe design. The wood is painted a sky blue though, which to some is a bonus and to others is a drawback.
Just depends on your opinion of sky blue really. We’re personally fans.
While we’re on the subject of color, if you worry the blue is too bright – don’t worry. The blue in the actual product is much darker than the one in the product picture.
This dugout features nice grooves for an easy grip and a classic swivel top. We love its classic wooden design and it’s pretty blue paint job.
So what puts this dugout at the number three spot instead of number one?
Here are the drawbacks:
- It hasn’t happened to us, but there are reports of paint chipping off inside the compartments… not good
- The blue they advertise is misleading, it’s much darker in person
- Swivel top can come loose over time
So, as with any product, there are some drawbacks. But this is a solid dugout pipe, especially if you’re a fan of the color blue!
Ryot is a solid brand, so predictably, they make a solid dugout. Or “taster box” as they call it (it’s a dugout pipe).
This dugout box/dugout pipe, as always, has a swivel to and the standard to compartments – one for storage and one for the one hitter, which is where one major problem comes into play…
There’s no one hitter included.
There are a couple of extra features that make up for this a bit though.
One thing that’s interesting about this particular dugout is that the swivel top is magnetic. This is very handy in keeping the box sealed and its containments fresh.
Continuing their use of magnets, there is a poker magnetically attached to the dugout. This serves as a cleaner for your dugout pipe (one hitter)!
So, the wonders of magnets aside, what puts this dugout at the number two spot instead of the number one?
Here are the drawbacks:
- This is preference, but we prefer wood over acrylic
- It’s a bit pricey as far as dugouts go
- The biggest drawback: no one hitter included – in a discussion of best dugout pipe and best one hitter for weed, this cant be #1
If you don’t mind the acrylic, the price, and the lack of included one hitter, this is a great dugout and definitely worth a buy!
Here it is, our pick for the best dugout pipe.
In line with the others on this list, this dugout has an interesting name.
Simply, “The Box”.
A simple name, for a simple dugout. That simplicity is what landed The Box in the number one spot on this list.
This dugout doesn’t try to be anything special. It’s simply a well built, classically designed dugout pipe sold at a reasonable price. This simplicity and effective execution of its design lands this box the number one spot.
It features a standard swivel top which covers the two standard dugout compartments (storage and one hitter). It has a powerful spring to propel the one hitter out of the compartment for easy access, and the one hitter itself is great.
In fact, it may be the best one hitter on this list. It has a classic design with a twist – a claw tip. A clawed tip is a small change to a one hitter, but a very useful one. It breaks up any goods you may be packing into said one hitter, making for very easy access.
In the spirit of fairness though, there are some downsides to this dugout – even though its the best dugout. Since we list every other products downside, we’ve got to list The Box’s as well.
The downsides are:
- The spring is at times too powerful. It can occasionally send the one hitter flying if you’re not expecting it
- There is a bit of an odd smell to the dugout when you first receive it. This fades with time
- The cleaner tool could be a bit longer, it doesn’t quite reach all the way through the one hitter
The Box is, in our opinion the best dugout pipe. It does have its drawbacks (as listed above) but it fills the need for a classic, reliable, long lasting dugout better than any alternative we’ve found.
What is the best dugout pipe for you?
The Box is, in our opinion, the best dugout pipe.
Does this mean it is definitely the best for you? Not necessarily.
We chose The Box because it best fit the need for a reliable, simple dugout. If you’re looking for something a little pricier and a little fancier, then maybe the Ryot Taster Box Dugout Pipe is the best for you (just remember to pick up a one hitter along with your purchase, it doesn’t come with one).
Maybe you like blue. Hey, nothing wrong with liking blue. If blue is your main criteria by which you choose products, we won’t judge, in fact, we’d recommend a blue product for you. The All Art Craft Box.
The point we’re trying to make here is that if you disagree with our picks, that’s totally fine. We did research, we weighed the pros and cons, and we did our best to pick the best dugout pipe for the most people – but that doesn’t mean opinions can’t vary!
In fact, all opinions vary! We did our best to fit these our pick for the best dugout pipe to the widest group of people, but if you don’t fall into that group, that’s alright with us.
In any case, we hope this list was helpful in your journey to determine the best dugout pipe.
