If you smoke weed often and are used to getting high, or even if you’ve never tried it before, you may be wondering “what happens when you smoke too much weed?”
First off it is important to note that no one has ever died from smoking too much weed, so as crazy or weird as you are feeling you can find some comfort in that everything is going to be ok. Regardless of if it was an edible, too many bong rips, or maybe you just have a low-tolerance, getting too high can easily happen to the best of us.
So what happens when you smoke too much weed? One of the first signs of knowing if you have smoked too much weed is starting to feel uncomfortable enough that you realize you are too high, this realization can be very unpleasant or you can just relax and try to ride out the high.
Your paranoia and anxiety will also dramatically increase, more so than if you were just a normal high. It can also lead to an increased heart rate, which you may be able to feel more closely and pay attention too since you are so high, but I promise your heart is not going to explode out of your chest.
If you are too high it may also be harder for you to remember things or participate in daily activities, giving your body a tingling or dizzy feeling. Some people are also known to get nauseous and puke from getting the “spins” when they are too high. The spins can cause you to feel as if the whole world is spinning and just overall disorientate you.
All of this sounds pretty unpleasant so here are some things you can to do help you when you get too high.
1. Know Your Limits
To prevent yourself from getting too high in the first place it is important to know your limits when it comes to smoking. This can stop your problem from happening before it even begins. It is important to smoke with people you are comfortable with so you don’t feel as if you need to smoke more than you can handle.
And when it comes to edibles it is important to take it slow, even if you do not feel it at first does not mean it won’t kick in at full blast three hours later.
2. Don’t Panic
If you’re at the point where you may have gone way past your tolerance level and find yourself too high it is extremely important not to panic. Most of your symptoms will go away within minutes to hours and will have no lasting effects besides a little grogginess.
Remember to breathe, take a deep breath and hold on, we promise this feeling will eventually go away.
It is so important to stay hydrated with water when getting too high. This will help you with a dry throat and mouth and can bring back the familiar action of drinking water. It can also sometimes help to splash some cold water on your face to calm your nerves and could bring you back to the here and now.
If nothing is working for you, sometimes it is important to just let your body relax. Find a nice quiet room where you can lay down, focus on your breathing, and eventually maybe fall asleep. Falling asleep can sometimes be the best option to fight off being too high, but it can also be hard to turn off that brain of yours, so if you can’t fall asleep just relax and focus on your breathing. You may pass out without even trying!
5. Take a shower or bath
A warm shower or bath can be very relaxing and refreshing when you’re too high. It can help calm your nerves and could even help bring you back to reality. I know this may be difficult if you are at a friends house, but if you’re at home it could be a great option.
6. Take a walk outside
Sometimes a change of scenery and a whiff of fresh air is all you need to start feeling better again. A walk outside can help clear your mind and get blood pumping to those muscles and brain to make you feel more alive. However, if you are still feeling too uncomfortable or dizzy in any way we recommend skipping this option.
7. Distract yourself
You can always still participate in things that are extra fun to do high to help distract yourself while you come down. You could watch a movie, a funny cartoon, listen to music, play video games, talk to friends, eat a great treat or meal or cuddle with your significant other.
Regardless of what you choose to do in your time of being a little too high, just be reassured that everything is going to be ok, we promise 🙂
